"Can God work through people who don’t know Him? That is a question we find the answer to in Isaiah 45. Cyrus was a Persian king whom God called even though he did not know God. As we think about this and look at history, I believe we can say that God often calls people to do things His will requires, even though they do not acknowledge Him, and, in fact, may never acknowledge Him. Don’t let possible conflicts of interest confuse you here, God is the LORD of everything and everyone, regardless of their beliefs. God is able to call people even if they have no interest in knowing or serving Him. As our example of this, Cyrus had two specific assignments from God. 1) To punish the nations for destroying Israel and Judah. 2) To resurrect the Temple of God in Jerusalem and end the Babylonian exile. As we read this chapter, let’s ask God to help us understand the Bible as never before.
