"Leadership is a major factor that determines the future of a nation. As we study the Scriptures surrounding ancient Israel, we quickly see the pitfalls of kingship. When the kings reflected the attitude of God and respected His role in the country, the nation was strong. When they made their decisions based on human wisdom and understanding, rejecting the advice of God, it went poorly. Some of the kings’ decisions changed the course of the nation's future forever. Such was the case with Solomon’s son Rehoboam. Rehoboam was insecure, trying to fill the shoes of his father who had ushered in a time of great prosperity for the nation. Rehoboam was demanding and unflinching, not willing to listen to the concerns of his people. He was as demanding as Solomon and did not have the attitude of heart that his grandfather David had. His government changed the nation forever.

The Mediocre King; 2 Chronicles 25-28
"The words recorded in 2 Chronicles 25 sound all too familiar: There are people who serve God, but not with their whole hearts. One of these men was the 9th king of Judah, Amaziah. He was a relatively good king, the Bible says that he served the LORD but not with a completely loyal heart. Amaziah...
