"It sounds great that the Kingdom of God will grow and expand. It warms our hearts, it gets us excited, until we realize that the Kingdom of God is going to include people that we don’t like, or even that we deem as unworthy. Thankfully, God is not bound by the human traditions and thinking that we find ourselves bound with. God will challenge our ungodly
ideas and will replace them with His ideas as we follow Him and learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. In today’s reading, we see the apostle Peter needing to be taught a similar lesson. God’s Kingdom would expand to the Gentiles, but in a way that would seem unacceptable to the Jewish customs of Peter and the rest of the Church. Gentiles could maintain their
culture, not become Jewish, and yet become Christ followers. They did not have to follow the Mosaic Law in order to follow Jesus. To many, this would be challenging news. So, God prepared the way for Peter to accept it for what it truly was: Good news!
