"The disciples of Jesus were interesting men. It seems that most of them did not have much of a connection with those in the high priesthood or other religious leadership of the day. They were not trained scholars or scribes. The disciples that Jesus called to Himself were regular men who worked and lived as a part of the everyday culture. Jesus calls the first four of these men where the population was largely Gentile; they were
fishermen from Galilee. Jesus’ move to the Galilean region shows His intent to save Gentiles as well as Jews. This is fascinating because while the Old Testament prophesied that Gentiles would come to God through the Messiah, this likely seemed impossible to do. But Jesus Christ was and is, God, and He chose to show the world that everyone was
invited to come into His Kingdom.
