"“He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction” (PROVERBS 13:3). This was written about 3,000 years ago, and we continue to struggle with the same problem. Today, internet forums and social media almost seem deliberately built against such wise instruction. Our mouths are wicked and divisive
instruments that can take us down a dark path, no matter how strong we think we are. “See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell” (JAMES 3:5-6). Violence is sparked by what we say. Proverbs 13 tells us that the mouth of the wise will protect their life and how we can be secured by doing the right things.
