Those who are evil in their hearts never understand how God works through them. But the LORD does. Often, God uses evil to judge and destroy powers and societies that are set up against Him. That is what happened to Israel. Hezekiah had created a massive revival or return to the LORD. Now the ultimate test was coming to Israel. Would they believe in God’s provision? Would they believe in the power which was in front of them? God makes sure the people know the choice. Rabshakeh is the principal man acting on behalf of the Assyrian King Sennacherib’ s authority. Rabshakeh comes to the city of Jerusalem, after destroying every other city and village in Judah, and says, “Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us” ( I SAIAH 36:14-15). What will the people do? This is their ultimate test.
