Hosea is a hard book to read. Hosea had to deal with the difficult realities of his own life while demonstrating the very similar situation between God and the nation of Israel. It always strikes me here that the Bible is clearly not a book of propaganda for Israel. If it is, it is a really bad one! The flaws of Israel and Judah are consistently called out; it does not paint a flattering picture. As Hosea was attempting to reconcile with his adulterous wife, loving her and drawing her back to himself, so God was faithfully dealing with a people who had consistently broken their covenant with Him. The prophet is direct and hard, filled with the emotion that he shared with God. It is so important for us to remain faithful to God. He has saved us! We must never
see our Christian life as something to be leveraged for our own physical gain, or something to be mistreated, it is a real and true relationship with our Creator.
