Idols Prevail; Hosea 12-14

There is a stark difference between erring while trying to worship God, and worshipping idols instead of God. God’s people had gone from bad to worse, despite His many warnings and messages to them, and the results were devastating. The LORD punished the people of Israel because they had left the covenant and created idols that betrayed how spiritually sick they had become. Through the prophet Hosea, the LORD told the people that He would help them if they would come back to Him by forsaking their sinful ways, but they would not. This rejection led to God’s judgment. Our sin has a way of deceiving us, we tell ourselves that things are going well, that we’re doing all the right things even when we’re not. Sin destroys our minds, our work, and the people around us. We set up idols in our minds and hearts that distract us from reality or help us cope with it. These things will ultimately fail us. Our only hope is to focus on God.
