The prophet Haggai challenged the people in Jerusalem to return to God. He urged them to take a good look at the way they were living and change to please God according to His laws. Haggai spoke to them about the holiness of God and how God desired the people to be holy too. Haggai was living after the time of the exile when the people had returned to Jerusalem. As the people strove to rebuild the Temple, they needed reminders to pay attention to God’s ways. The Temple was not the most important thing, the people’s faithfulness was. When we consider the ways of God today, we are under the grace of Jesus Christ. Things are very different now than they were before Jesus walked the Earth. Still, it is critically important to hear the Word of God and seek to do His work the right way. There is nothing worse than doing the right thing the wrong way. This is something God does not tolerate.
