Our reading today brings us into the long saga of Joseph’s life. Genesis 40 reveals that Joseph was so trustworthy and faithful in the prison he was wrongly confined to, that the captain of the guard trusted him with the care of the chief baker and butler, who were sent to prison by Pharaoh himself. Chapter 41 reveals Joseph’s God-given ability to interpret dreams. Chapter 42 brings us back to Joseph’s father Jacob who realized that Egypt was their only hope for survival. He commanded his sons to go to Egypt to purchase food. Let’s now dig into chapter 40, and Joseph’s unjust imprisonment. The Bible says, “But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison” (GENESIS 39:21). God was always with Joseph, no matter what his outward circumstances were, because Joseph was faithful.

The Work Increases; Exodus 4-7
