Ezekiel 42 belongs to one the most difficult passages of Scripture to understand. Beginning in Ezekiel 40, the prophet is describing the layout of a new Temple of the LORD, and by chapter 42 Ezekiel is describing the Temple’s inner chambers that the priests would use. I wonder what Ezekiel thought as an exiled priest himself. When it comes to understanding this new Temple, some see it as a real physical temple that will be built and in use during the thousand-year reign of Christ that is still to come. Others see it as a detailed symbol of the spiritual reality of God dwelling with the Church either in this age or in the new heavens and new earth. Still others interpret it as a prophecy that has both physical and spiritual elements to it. Everyone agrees that these passages show that God desires to be and will be with His people. As the Holy Spirit helps us, let’s soak in that main message and ask for God’s wisdom in understanding His Words.
