When we consider the book of Amos and the prophet Amos, there is a lot that we can learn about God and His truth. Some people call Amos “God’s angry man” and I’m sure you can see why. His words are harsh, they have an angry edge to them. But sometimes the truth is harsh. Israel was so sinful that God called Amos to prophesy. This would have been unexpected for two reasons: (1) Amos was from Judah not from Israel, and (2) Amos was a farmer, not a prophet. God called a commoner to speak His Words to an entire nation. As would be
expected, Israel did not accept Amos, but Amos did fulfill his call to be a prophet. God often calls people that we may see as unqualified, but it is His Holy Spirit who qualifies people! God will utilize whoever is willing. You may feel unqualified for what God has for you, but our limitations aren’t limitations for God. He has given each of us a testimony of how He’s worked in our lives and He will empower us to tell that testimony as we pay attention to Him and how He’s moving in our stories.
