In Ezekiel 38, the prophet speaks about what will happen in a time of peace in the “latter days.” This safely moves the prophecy out of the time in which Ezekiel was living. This is not the only time the Bible uses the phrase “latter days” or “latter years,” but in Ezekiel’s case we can see that he’s prophesying about a regathered Israel. They are no longer facing the Babylonian exile as they were in Ezekiel’s day, but have been regathered and rebuilt. We also read that they are experiencing a time of peace and security. They’re said to dwell securely without having walled cities with gates and bars as they did in the Biblical period. Then they are attacked by a land north of Israel leading many peoples against them. This is one of the reasons why many readers see peace in the Middle East as a necessary step toward the end of time. Very interesting indeed.
