When the LORD has pronounced His judgment in any situation, you cannot escape. That is exactly what Isaiah prophesied in chapter 20 of his book. And in Isaiah 18:3 he declares, “All inhabitants of the world and dwellers on the earth: When he lifts up a banner on the mountains, you see it; And when he blows a trumpet, you hear it.” Here Isaiah explains that no
one escapes the judgment of God when it comes. In Isaiah 20, there were some in Judah who believed that an alliance with Cush and Egypt would save them. But God was moving and He had spoken to Judah about their absence of His laws and will in their lives. In 711 BC, the Philistine city of Ashdod was captured by the commander-in-chief of the Assyrian king Sargon II. The capture of Ashdod was a signal to the Judahites that they could not count on foreign alliances to keep them safe – they could not escape God’s judgment.
