"There are some who think that serving God is about obeying sets of rules. But faith in Jesus Christ is about loving God and living for Him. Jesus clearly taught this. The religious elite of His time were so tied up into the Laws of God and the rules they had added to try to apply these laws to everyday life, that the very presence of Jesus offended them. It was this group who pushed to have Jesus crucified. There is a difference between loving and desiring to serve God, and obeying rules to earn God’s favour or avoid punishment. When we love the LORD, we desire to please Him. We recognize all that He has given for us: His life. He came to serve us and now we can serve Him with our lives with love and thankfulness. The way we see faith in Christ affects the way we serve the LORD. So often serving the LORD is difficult, but by God’s grace and strength we do it because we love Him.
